The CIAT principal designer register launched
[edit] CIAT is delighted to launch its Building Safety Principal Designer (PD) Register
The role of the Building Safety Principal Designer is to assist clients and/or contractors in planning, managing, monitoring and coordinating designers and design work, by taking reasonable steps to ensure that the work is compliant with relevant requirements.
Inclusion on CIAT's Register means that the competence of registered Chartered Architectural Technologists has been verified, providing an assurance of their capability to undertake the role of Principal Designer as outlined under the Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023.
Those on the Register submitted performance evidence and knowledge criteria which was then assessed against the Institute's Principal Designer Competency Framework for non-Higher Risk Buildings (non-HRBs) and for Higher Risk Buildings (HRBs). The Register also offers a straightforward route to progress from non-HRB to HRB.
Duty holders and members of the public can check the registration status of Members through the Institute's publicly available PD Registers.
CIAT President, Eddie Weir PCIAT, said:
'I am delighted that after months of work by the PD Competency Steering Group, we are now able to launch our Register. It has been remarkable to follow the progress of Chartered Architectural Technologists coming together to share their knowledge, skills and experience to determine the key outcomes and competence requirements to ensure buildings are safe for the users and communities they serve.'
'It is a privilege to welcome our first cohort onto the Register and to encourage many more to join under a collective effort to make a difference and have an impact on building safety within the industry and society.'
